Lots of stuffs to talk about in this week’s champions league fixtures. As always, it was exciting to see the resumption of the champions league which we all love. Like I said, there is a lot to talk about but I will try to condense that into this single post as if I am to write about everything as I want to, it would take a really long writeup. The Atletico Madrid vs Salzburg fixture and the Monchengladbach vs Real Madrid were among the stand out fixtures including the Atalanta vs Ajax fixture, but I won’t be covering that match in this post.

Atletico Madrid found themselves behind after their first fixture 4 nil loss to Bayern Munich who are the defending champions. This fixture against Salzburg was expected to be a difficult match for Atletico Madrid, but they were expected to get the 3 points especially after what happened in the first match. The game started pretty wel for Atletico Madrid as they took the lead over half way into the first half. Marcos Llorente scored the first goal for Atletico Madrid on the 29th minute. After that goal, things began to slowly go down hill as they found themselves level as Dominik Szoboszlai scored the equalizer for Salzburg on the 40th minute. After that, nothing much really happened as the first half ended 1-1.

The second half was pretty much like the first half, an even contents as both teams had chances in the game. It didn’t take long for Salzburg to turn it around and take the lead. Mergim Berisha scored the second goal for Salzburg in the 47th minute to make it 1-2. However, it didn’t take long for Atletico Madrid to reply. Joao Felix drew the game level with his goal on the 52nd minute. The winning goal came late in the game, all thanks to Joao Felix 85th minute goal to give Atletico Madrid the lead and make it 3-2. A goal which eventually became the winning goal for Atletico Madrid. Precious 3 points earned as Atletico Madrid breath sigh of relief. They have now moved to second on the table.

Monchengladbach vs Real Madrid was a very similar match to that of the Atletico Madrid vs Salzburg. Real Madrid were in a similar situation to Atletico Madrid going into this second fixture, losing their first match and were already behind going into this game. However, they weren’t able to pull the winner like Atletico Madrid but only managed to salvage a draw. Monchengladbach came into this game with a clear objective to win and they almost accomplished that. Marcus Thuram first put Monchengladbach 2-0 up in the 33rd minute and early in the second half on the 58th minute. At this point, things looked lost for Real Madrid as a loss would have been really bad for them. However, things changed as Karim Benzema pulled a goal back for Real Madrid late in the game on the 87th minute to give hope to the team. Real Madrid kept on pushing and were eventually rewarded with an equalizer, all thanks to Casemero 90+3 minutes goal to secure a point for Real Madrid. A poor result for Real Madrid considering their standards, but all hope is not lost as they can still go through.
